"Too, too many margaritas."
I remember getting to the mexican restaurant and being seated directly in front of the family of one of my current students [and my friend’s former student] — we patiently waited until they finished their food, waved as they left and then dove into our purses for our IDs to finally order birthday drinks.
It gets pretty fuzzy after that. I think I got dropped off around 3:30am and...

I GOT PAID LAST NIGHT.
At midnight, my paycheck magically floated into my measly bank account. I can’t tell you how overjoyed I was to see this tiny little scrap of money there this morning. [You know, considering I haven’t been paid since December 17th — January was such a long month.]
Teachers: can I get an amen?

Frustration:
I feel mad and frustrated at something, but I don’t know what. Do you ever get consumed by these feelings and lost as to how you got there? I’m brimming with angst and I have no clue why.

Thank you, potential black ice threat.
This 2-hour delay is EXACTLY what I needed.

TEACHER MISSION:
create at least FOUR “take home” activities for a parent’s night based on middle school language arts for this Thursday. I was desperately trying to stay away from vocabulary flash cards or anything just too generic, ya know? Eeek.
It would have been cool to know about this earlier than Tuesday, guys.
Any suggestions?

yo, tumblr teachers! [or anyone.]
I’m throwing together a playlist to teach “mood” — Last year, I played songs and we talked about the mood of the songs and then eased into locating the mood of a selection/story.
Apparently, I’m out of ideas [or I can’t find any music suitable for 6th graders] Wait, let me rephrase: I can find LOTS of music that 6th graders listen to, but none of it seems...

Sometimes I have to force myself to grade.

COME on, you can do it! You can do it! You can do it!
I need some Eye of the Tiger up in here.
I absolutely love every single thing about teaching — except for grading [oh, and paper work. oh, and standardized testing. oh, and calling parents.] Okay, I lied. Maybe I just love the VERB: teaching [the act of doing it; not all that side stuff.]
Also: Grading is overrated.

When you don’t listen to Death Cab in the longest time, and then start playing Plans and the beginning of “Marching Bands of Manhattan” is the most lovely sound in the world.
apparently, this is theme of the night. what a coincidence.

I hate teacher workdays.
Everyone congregates in my room and I leave with nothing done.

I had to clean up the tumblr again.
Middle schoolers should not be allowed on the internet. Clearly, I’m exaggerating [maybe.]
